Patna: New lawyers in Bihar will receive a monthly stipend of Rs 5,000 for three years under a newly implemented government welfare scheme, Advocate General SD Sanjay said on Thursday.

The scheme is open to lawyers registered with the Bihar State Bar Council after January 1, 2024, provided they meet the prescribed eligibility conditions.

Application Process

Applicants must purchase an application form for Rs 100 and submit it with supporting documents, including their matriculation certificate, Bar Council registration certificate, proof of active legal practice or experience, parents’ income certificate, residence certificate, PAN card and All India Bar Examination (AIBE) certificate.

Applicants must also submit an affidavit stating that they have no involvement in criminal cases and are not engaged in any profession other than legal practice. A cancelled cheque is also required.

The application must carry the signatures of the president and general secretary of the respective Advocates’ Association.

Support For Advocates’ Associations

Sanjay said the scheme is new and may face minor initial issues, but the government is committed to extending the benefit to eligible junior lawyers.

The government will also provide Rs 5 lakh to Advocates’ Associations for setting up e-libraries and facilitate restrooms and chambers for women lawyers.

The government has already allocated Rs 30 crore to the Bihar Advocates’ Welfare Trust Committee as part of its support for the legal community.
