Hajipur: Leader of the Opposition in Bihar, Tejashwi Yadav, had a narrow escape on Thursday after the SDRF boat carrying him began to deflate while he was travelling through floodwaters in Raghopur.
Yadav had reached the area to assess the impact of flooding in the Sarai-pur, Terasia and Raghopur assembly constituencies. The incident occurred while he was travelling by boat to inspect the affected areas.
Alternative Boat Arranged
The condition of the SDRF boat deteriorated during the journey, prompting concern among those accompanying Yadav. Another boat was arranged shortly afterwards, allowing him to continue his inspection.
Yadav had descended near Pillar No. 1 of the Mahatma Gandhi Setu before beginning the boat journey through the flood-affected areas.
Yadav Questions Relief Arrangements
After the incident, Yadav criticised the state government’s flood relief and rescue arrangements. He questioned how adequate the arrangements could be for residents if an SDRF boat carrying the Leader of the Opposition itself developed a problem during a flood inspection.
He alleged that people in flood-affected areas were not receiving adequate relief and claimed that some residents were struggling to access basic food grains. He also questioned whether sufficient boats were available to assist people stranded by the floods.
Demand For Faster Relief
Yadav called on the government to speed up relief and rescue operations in the affected areas. He also alleged that political leaders often visit flood-hit locations for publicity but leave without addressing the problems faced by residents.
