Patna: The spell of rainfall in Bihar has weakened, but 12 districts in the Seemanchal and south-eastern parts of the state may receive light rain on Saturday, according to the Meteorological Centre. A yellow alert has been issued for the affected districts, with showers possible at some places.
The districts under the alert are Supaul, Araria, Kishanganj, Saharsa, Madhepura, Purnia, Khagaria, Bhagalpur, Katihar, Munger, Jamui and Banka. No rain alert has been issued for the remaining 26 districts.
Patna likely to stay hot and humid
In Patna, bright sunshine is expected through most of Saturday. The combination of sunshine and humidity is likely to make conditions uncomfortable.
The weather could change towards evening, with cloud cover developing and light rain possible in some parts of the city.
Despite the possibility of showers over the coming days, meteorologists do not expect any significant drop in daytime temperatures. Minimum temperatures are also unlikely to change substantially over the next five days, with humid conditions expected to persist.
Weather system over Bay of Bengal
A low-pressure area has formed over the coastal region of southern Odisha and northern Andhra Pradesh, adjoining the north-western and west-central Bay of Bengal.
A cyclonic circulation associated with the system is active and is expected to strengthen over the next 24 hours. The system is likely to move in a west-north-westerly direction.
The system could draw moisture into parts of Bihar, creating conditions for light rainfall. However, there is currently no indication of heavy or widespread rainfall across the state.
Aurangabad records 123mm rain
Several parts of Bihar received significant rainfall during the 24 hours ending Friday. Aurangabad recorded the highest rainfall at 123mm, followed by 76mm in Jamui, 74mm in Bhagalpur, 60mm in Rohtas and 53mm in Madhepura.
Despite the recent rainfall, Bihar’s overall monsoon deficit remains significant.
The state should have received 858.9mm of rainfall by September 11, but actual rainfall has reached only 564.6mm, leaving Bihar with a 34% deficit for the monsoon season so far.
Patna records state’s highest temperature
Patna was the hottest district in Bihar on Friday, recording a maximum temperature of 35.4°C.
Other major cities recorded maximum temperatures of 33.8°C in Gaya, 32.4°C in Aurangabad, 32°C in Nawada and Bhagalpur, 31.8°C in Muzaffarpur, and 31.6°C in Purnia.
With no major change in temperatures expected, much of Bihar is likely to continue experiencing humid and uncomfortable weather, even as isolated light showers remain possible in parts of the state.
