Patna: Parking a vehicle in a no-parking zone in Patna could soon trigger an instant alert to the concerned traffic control room under a new technology-based plan being developed to tackle congestion across the city.

The system will use technology to identify vehicles parked in areas where parking is prohibited. Once a violation is detected, an automatic alert will be sent to the control room of the concerned area, which will then contact the traffic police personnel deployed there.

The move is aimed at making enforcement faster and improving accountability in areas where illegal parking regularly contributes to traffic jams.

Illegal Parking To Be Tracked Through Technology

Illegal parking has been identified as one of the factors behind traffic congestion in Patna. Under the proposed system, technology will be used to monitor roads and identify vehicles parked in restricted areas.

Once an alert reaches the control room, the traffic personnel responsible for the area will be asked to take action and provide a response.

The system will also help officials track what action was taken after a violation was reported.

Unauthorised Stoppages Add To Traffic Jams

The plan will also address the problem of vehicles stopping at unauthorised locations.

Patna has previously seen the construction of modern bus stops for city service buses, but buses have not consistently used the designated stoppages. Instead, buses often stop where passengers are waiting, affecting the movement of other vehicles.

Authorities are now looking at technology as a way to better regulate such roadside stoppages.

Auto And E-Rickshaw Stoppages Under Scanner

The issue of auto-rickshaws and e-rickshaws creating their own stopping points has also emerged during efforts to control traffic congestion in the capital.

The Road Construction Department has been working with the Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) on measures to improve traffic movement in Patna.

The assessment found that unregulated stoppages by autos and e-rickshaws can add to congestion at several locations.

Even the deployment of traffic police personnel and officials at some of these points has not always produced the desired improvement. The administration will therefore explore technology-based monitoring to strengthen traffic management.

Police Presence Will Also Be Monitored

The proposed technology will not only track parking violations and traffic congestion. It will also monitor whether traffic police personnel are present at their assigned locations.

This will allow authorities to check whether the personnel deployed to control traffic in a particular area are actually present at their designated points.

The information will provide senior officers with a clearer picture of both traffic conditions and the response on the ground.

Magistrates And DSPs To Receive Reports

Magistrate- and DSP-level officers are already deployed in different areas to oversee traffic management.

Under the new system, tracking reports will be sent to the concerned officers. The system will also record what action was taken after information about congestion or a traffic violation was received.

This will create an additional monitoring mechanism for traffic management and enforcement.

Patna’s Traffic Management To Get A Technology Push

The proposed system will bring together illegal-parking detection, traffic-jam tracking and monitoring of traffic police deployment.

By using automatic alerts and digital tracking, the administration aims to respond more quickly to parking violations and congestion while keeping closer watch on traffic management personnel across the city.
