Gaya: A major drug seizure was reported at Gaya Junction after a woman was arrested with 15.8 kg of ganja from the AC-2 coach of the Bhubaneswar Tejas Rajdhani Express.
The estimated market value of the seized cannabis is around Rs 7 lakh, according to railway police.
The action was carried out by a joint team of the Railway Protection Force (RPF), Crime Intelligence Bureau (CIB) and Government Railway Police (GRP) following a tip-off about suspected drug trafficking on the train.
Police Receive Tip-Off About Ganja Consignment
According to officials, railway police received information that a woman travelling in the AC-2 tier coach of the Bhubaneswar Tejas Rajdhani Express was allegedly carrying a large quantity of ganja.
Acting on the information, personnel from the RPF, CIB and GRP began surveillance and checking at Gaya Junction.
The team focused on passengers matching the information received and monitored their activities before carrying out the search.
15.8 Kg Ganja Recovered From Bag
During the search, the woman was found carrying a bag containing 15 kg 800 grams of ganja, police said.
The suspected contraband was seized and the woman was taken into custody for further investigation.
The recovery was made from the AC-2 tier coach of the train.
Ganja Worth Around Rs 7 Lakh Seized
Railway police estimated the market value of the seized ganja at approximately Rs 7 lakh.
Following the arrest, the railway police initiated further legal proceedings and began investigating the source of the contraband and its intended destination.
RPF Inspector Confirms Arrest
Gaya Junction RPF Inspector Banarasi Yadav said the arrest was made on the basis of confidential information.
According to the RPF official, the woman was arrested from the AC-2 coach of the Bhubaneswar Tejas Rajdhani Express with 15.8 kg of ganja.
Officials said further legal proceedings in the case are underway.
Woman Was Travelling Towards New Delhi
According to the RPF, the arrested woman was travelling towards New Delhi. Officials identified her as a resident of Gaya.
Police are now investigating where the suspected contraband was sourced from and whether the woman was allegedly working as part of a larger drug-trafficking network.
Probe Underway Into Possible Trafficking Network
The seizure has prompted investigators to examine the circumstances surrounding the transportation of the ganja.
Police are expected to question the accused to establish the source of the contraband, its intended destination and whether other people were involved.
Officials are also investigating whether the case is connected to a wider network using train passengers to transport narcotics.
