Patna: Patna Women’s College observed Ozone Day on September 16, 2026, with an e-waste collection drive and a guest lecture on the challenges associated with electronic waste as part of the Season of Creation.
The programme was organised by the SRISHTI Environment Club in collaboration with the Department of Geography and ECO Task Force.
The event began with the collection of e-waste from various departments of Patna Women’s College. The collected electronic waste was subsequently handed over to Karo Sambhav, an e-waste management handler.
Guest Lecture Highlights E-Waste Hazards
The collection drive was followed by a guest lecture on “Challenges and Issues of E-Waste” by Dr Vinita Prasad, Associate Professor, Department of Geography, A.N. College.
The lecture focused on understanding the sources and generation of e-waste and the challenges associated with its growing accumulation.
Dr Prasad also discussed the chemicals released from electronic waste, their impact on the environment and the potential health implications of improper e-waste handling and disposal.
The session further highlighted appropriate mechanisms for the safe and responsible disposal of e-waste.
Students Participate in Environmental Awareness Programme
Members of the SRISHTI Environment Club and ECO Task Force participated enthusiastically in the programme.
The initiative aimed to create greater awareness among students about responsible e-waste management and the environmental consequences of improper disposal.
Faculty Members Support Initiative
The programme was conducted under the supervision of Dr Amrita Chowdhury, Head, Department of Geography, with the guidance of Ms Meenakshi Mishra, Coordinator, SRISHTI Environment Club and Assistant Professor, Department of Geography.
Vagisha Variyar, Environment and Disaster Secretary, moderated the programme, while Aliba Nadeem, Joint General Secretary, delivered the vote of thanks.
The initiative combined practical e-waste collection with academic discussion, encouraging students to understand the environmental and health concerns linked to electronic waste and the importance of responsible disposal.
