Patna: A 28-member delegation from Thailand is visiting Bihar under the “Fam Tour of Lotus Triangle — Travel to Land of Enlightenment”, organised by the Bihar Tourism Department to showcase the state’s Buddhist, historical and cultural heritage.

The delegation visited the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya on September 20, where the members offered prayers and experienced the site associated with Buddha’s enlightenment.

The Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of the most important Buddhist pilgrimage destinations in the world.

Bihar Tourism Showcases Buddhist Heritage

Udayan Mishra, Special Secretary-cum-Director of Tourism, said Bihar is focusing on the development and promotion of important sites along the Buddhist circuit while working to improve the experience of international visitors.

He said the visit by the Thai delegation would help showcase Bihar’s Buddhist heritage internationally and contribute to stronger tourism and cultural ties between India and Thailand.

The Thai delegates described their visit to Bodh Gaya as memorable and spiritually significant. They also appreciated the peaceful atmosphere around the Mahabodhi Temple.

Delegation Visits Key Buddhist Sites

During their Bodh Gaya visit, the delegation also travelled to Dungeshwari Hills, Sujata Temple, Sujata Stupa, a Thai temple, the Archaeological Survey of India museum and the 80-foot Buddha statue.

The familiarisation tour is designed to introduce international visitors to Bihar’s Buddhist heritage as well as its historical and cultural attractions, local traditions and hospitality.

After Bodh Gaya, the delegation will continue its journey to Rajgir, Nalanda, Vaishali and Patna.

Rajgir And Nalanda On The Itinerary

On September 21, the delegation is scheduled to visit Gehlaur and the Dashrath Manjhi Memorial, followed by the Rajgir Nature Safari and Glass Bridge.

The itinerary also includes Nalanda Mahavihara, an important centre of ancient Buddhist learning, along with Rajgir’s World Peace Pagoda, Venu Van and other attractions.

In Vaishali, the delegation will visit the Relic Stupa, World Peace Pagoda and the Ashokan Pillar at Kolhua.

The final stage of the tour will include a meeting with local tourism stakeholders in Patna, providing an opportunity to discuss Bihar’s tourism potential and international outreach.
