Patna: District-level government officers in Bihar will now take on an additional role in schools, with officials directed to teach at least one class every week at the state’s 700 model schools.
The initiative is aimed at strengthening academic and administrative monitoring in model schools. The state Education Department has directed all district magistrates to ensure that one district-level officer is attached to each model school.
The instructions were issued by Education Department Secretary Rajiv Roshan.
Officers To Take Weekly Classes
Under the new arrangement, the attached officers will regularly visit their respective schools and monitor academic and administrative activities.
Each officer will be required to conduct at least one class every week, with the option of taking additional classes based on their subject knowledge and interest.
Officials will also observe lesson planning, homework and classroom teaching practices. They will monitor whether the prescribed curriculum is being completed on schedule and whether available modern educational facilities are being properly used.
Student attendance will also remain an important part of the monitoring exercise.
Focus On Teaching, Discipline And Facilities
The officers will review students’ academic progress, discipline and regular attendance during their school visits.
They will also check teacher attendance and assess basic facilities such as electricity, toilets, drinking water and maintenance of school buildings.
Meetings with headmasters and teachers will be held to discuss issues affecting the overall development of the schools and identify areas requiring improvement.
The initiative also aims to encourage innovation and better use of available resources in the model schools.
Special Focus On English Skills
The Education Department has also directed model schools to conduct special classes to improve students’ English-language skills.
Officials taking classes have been asked to give particular attention to areas such as debating, writing and grammar.
The officers will submit reports on the condition of the schools and the activities undertaken during their visits to the Education Department.
Reports To Be Reviewed At District Level
The attached officials will be registered school-wise on the e-Shiksha Kosh platform.
Reports submitted by the officers will be reviewed by the respective District Education Officers, who will take necessary steps to improve school management and academic arrangements.
The district-level reports will also be presented during state-level review meetings, allowing the Education Department to monitor the progress of the initiative across the 700 model schools.
