Patna: Protests by TRE-4 and Group D candidates continued in Patna on Tuesday, with separate groups taking to the streets over demands related to teacher recruitment and long-pending appointments.
TRE-4 candidates reached the area around Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari’s residence seeking an opportunity for candidates appearing for the CTET 2026 examination to participate in the BPSC TRE-4 recruitment process.
The demand comes amid continuing agitation over the recruitment examination. Earlier, the Bihar government had agreed to conduct TRE-4 as a single-stage examination following protests by teacher aspirants.
Group D Candidates March Towards CM’s Residence
Separately, Group D candidates began a march from Gandhi Maidan towards the Chief Minister’s residence.
Police stopped the march near JP Golambar by putting up barricades. Around 500 protesters subsequently staged a sit-in at the spot, according to the information provided.
The protesters were carrying the Tricolour as well as posters and banners outlining their demands.
One poster read: “If you conducted the peon exam, then grant appointments; if no appointment, then grant death.”
Candidates Say Recruitment Has Been Pending For Years
Some protesters brought folding cots to the protest site, saying they had already been staging a sit-in at Gardanibagh for around 30 days.
A Group D candidate said the recruitment process dates back to 2012, when applications were invited for the posts.
“We filled out the forms in 2012. The advertisement stated—‘Ride a bicycle, get a job.’ Subsequently, the exam was conducted,” the candidate said.
The candidate also alleged that although the examination was intended for candidates at matriculation and eighth-grade levels, questions of much higher difficulty were asked.
Another protester said around 9,720 candidates were involved in the recruitment process. According to the candidate, applications were submitted in 2023 and the examination was conducted in 2024, but appointments have still not been made.
“Our demand is that the government either appoint us or grant us death,” the protester said.
Police Step Up Security
Patna Police erected barricades at several locations along the protest routes and deployed a large number of personnel to manage the demonstrations.
Water cannons and riot-control vehicles were also positioned as part of the security arrangements.
The protests come amid a broader series of student and job aspirant demonstrations in Patna over recruitment and examination-related demands. TRE-4 aspirants have previously held prolonged protests at Gardanibagh over issues including the examination format and other recruitment provisions.
Police have made arrangements to regulate the movement of protesters and maintain traffic and security around the designated protest routes.
