Patna: Bihar is preparing to introduce artificial intelligence (AI)-focused courses at the undergraduate level across universities in the state, with the proposed changes expected to cover all 483 constituent colleges.
The move is aimed at introducing students to emerging technologies and preparing them for changing requirements in the job market.
According to officials, Bihar Governor and Chancellor Syed Ata Hasnain has directed that an expert committee be constituted to prepare the framework for the proposed AI curriculum.
AI And Data Science Among Proposed Subjects
According to an official from Bihar Lok Bhavan, the proposed curriculum could include courses such as AI and Data Science, Robotics and IoT, BSc-AI and BCA-AI across the state’s constituent colleges.
The expert committee will suggest the structure and subjects to be introduced at different levels.
Officials said the curriculum framework will be prepared with reference to courses offered by reputed professional universities across the country.
Based on the proposed framework, universities are expected to introduce degree-level courses covering artificial intelligence, machine learning and related technologies.
AI To Be Integrated Into Multiple Degree Programmes
The proposed changes are not limited to standalone AI degrees. AI-focused content is also being planned for several existing undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.
At the undergraduate level, BTech, BCA and BSc programmes are expected to receive greater emphasis on AI-related subjects. At the postgraduate level, MTech programmes are also expected to incorporate AI-focused curriculum.
The proposed subjects include cloud computing, data mining and visualisation, big data analytics, intelligent robotics, natural language processing, deep learning and neural networks.
An Introduction to AI course is also among the subjects proposed under the new curriculum.
New Subjects To Match Future Job Requirements
The curriculum is also expected to include additional emerging subjects based on future requirements in technology and employment.
Officials said the objective is to help students understand modern technological developments and acquire skills relevant to the changing job market.
The proposed AI-focused curriculum would therefore combine core concepts of artificial intelligence and related technologies with newer areas that may become important for employment and professional opportunities.
The expert committee will play a key role in determining the final curriculum framework before its implementation across the universities.
