Patna: The Department of History at Patna Women’s College (Autonomous), Patna University, organised an educational visit to an archival institution for Semester I students on September 29.
The visit was conducted under the guidance of Dr Satyam Kumar and Dr Pratibha Singh, Assistant Professors in the Department of History.
Students Learn About The Role Of Archives
The visit was organised to provide students with practical exposure to archival institutions and help them understand the importance of archives in the study and preservation of history.
An orientation session was conducted by Dr Bharti Sharma, a member of the archives staff and an academician. She introduced the students to the concept of archives and explained their purpose, functions and significance in preserving historical records and documents.
Understanding Historical Materials
During the orientation, students learned about the different types of materials preserved in archives and the role of archival institutions in protecting valuable historical sources for future generations.
The visit also gave students an opportunity to understand how archival institutions function and how historical documents and records are preserved.
Connecting Classroom Learning With Sources
The educational visit helped students connect their classroom learning with historical sources and gain a practical understanding of archives as part of the discipline of History.
The programme concluded with students developing a greater appreciation for the preservation of historical records and the importance of archives as valuable sources for historical research.
