Patna : Patna is expanding its electricity infrastructure to improve power supply for around 7.5 lakh consumers, with three new power substations expected to become operational within the next three months.
The substations at Bhootnath, Pahari and Nausa are expected to help reduce overloading and frequent power tripping in Kankarbagh, the Bypass area and nearby localities.
Construction is also underway at 14 other locations, taking the total number of new substations being developed to 17.
Construction Underway At 14 More Locations
The 14 other locations where power substation construction is underway include:
- Danapur Block Office
- Patna Ghat
- Nandlal Chhapra
- Bairiya
- SCERT campus
- DPS Mor
- Usri
- Naya Vidyut Bhawan
- Kanauji Shahpur
- Ranipur Jalla
- Kothwan
- Shriram School in Kankarbagh
- Press Club in Gulzarbagh
- Sampatchak
Once commissioned, the additional substations are expected to distribute the electricity load across more facilities and reduce pressure on the existing network.
Patna Currently Gets Power From 84 Substations
At present, Patna receives electricity through 84 power substations. The addition of 17 more is expected to ease the load on the existing infrastructure.
Reducing overloading could also help address problems such as transformer failures and cable faults, which are often reported during periods of high electricity demand, particularly in summer.
The expansion is intended to improve supply reliability for households and other consumers across the city.
Hearing On New Bihar Electricity Supply Code On November 24
Separately, the Bihar Electricity Regulatory Commission (BERC) is scheduled to hold a hearing on November 24 on the proposed Bihar Electricity Supply Code 2026.
Bihar has more than 2.22 crore electricity consumers, and the new code is being prepared to reflect changes in the power sector since the existing code was introduced in 2007.
The proposed framework aims to improve consumer services and support reliable, quality electricity supply. It also seeks to address complaints associated with smart meters, including unexpected balance deductions, concerns about meter readings and supply interruptions after recharging.
Focus On Reliable Supply And Consumer Services
The expansion of Patna’s power substations and the proposed revision of Bihar’s electricity supply code are separate measures aimed at improving electricity services.
While the new substations are expected to ease local network pressure, the proposed code is intended to update supply-related rules for consumers across the state.
The effectiveness of both measures will depend on the timely completion of infrastructure work and the implementation of consumer-service provisions.
