Patna : Dr Veena Singh, Head of Department at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna, has taken over as president of the Bihar Jharkhand Plastic Surgeons Association.
She assumed the position during the association’s 15th annual conference in Jamshedpur, attended by Dr Dinesh Kadam of Mangaluru, National Vice-President of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India. More than 100 plastic surgeons from Bihar and Jharkhand participated in the conference.
Expanding Plastic Surgery Services In Remote Areas
After taking charge, Dr Singh described the position as both an honour and a significant responsibility.
She said one of her key priorities would be to extend plastic surgery services to underserved and remote areas of Bihar and Jharkhand, ensuring that people who have limited access to specialist healthcare can benefit from the association’s initiatives.
The focus, she indicated, would be on reaching people in need of reconstructive procedures beyond major urban centres.
Research And Training Among Key Priorities
Dr Singh also emphasised the need to strengthen academic activities, research and professional training in plastic surgery.
She highlighted the importance of providing young plastic surgeons with opportunities to develop skills in modern surgical techniques. Strengthening training and research, she said, would help support professional development and improve the delivery of specialist care.
Plastic Surgery Extends Beyond Aesthetic Procedures
Dr Singh noted that plastic surgery is not limited to cosmetic or aesthetic enhancement. It also plays an important role in treating medical conditions that require reconstruction or restoration of function.
These include congenital deformities, cleft lip and palate, post-burn deformities and severe injuries caused by accidents, along with other conditions requiring reconstructive surgery.
Such procedures can help restore physical function, improve quality of life and support patients in regaining confidence.
Dr Veena Singh Holds National-Level Roles
Alongside her responsibilities at AIIMS Patna, Dr Singh serves as the National Treasurer of the Association of Plastic Surgeons of India (APSI).
She is also a member of the Governing Body of AIIMS Gorakhpur.
Her appointment as president of the Bihar Jharkhand Plastic Surgeons Association brings a renewed focus on expanding access to reconstructive surgery, strengthening academic collaboration and creating more training opportunities for young plastic surgeons across the two states.
