Patna: Patna Division Commissioner Rajesh Kumar has directed officials to ensure that CCTV cameras remain functional at all police stations and police outposts across the division, with repairs and installations to be completed before the festive season.
During a review of CCTV arrangements on October 13, 2026, the commissioner instructed district magistrates and senior superintendents of police and superintendents of police to install cameras at police stations and outposts where they are still missing. Officials were also asked to coordinate with the relevant agencies to repair non-functional cameras, battery backup systems and other faulty equipment without delay.
The commissioner stressed that all cameras must be operational before the festivals begin and warned officials against negligence in implementing the instructions.
Regular Monitoring and Maintenance of CCTV Systems
Rajesh Kumar said that installing cameras alone was not sufficient. Officials must also ensure regular maintenance, technical inspections, the proper functioning of equipment and the availability of recorded footage.
He directed district officials and police chiefs to appoint a nodal officer in coordination with the technical officer of the National Informatics Centre (NIC) in each district. The designated officers will periodically inspect CCTV systems and submit reports on camera functionality and the availability of recorded footage.
Police officials have also been instructed to conduct regular reviews at their own level so that technical faults can be identified and resolved promptly.
Patna Municipal Corporation Cameras Also Under Review
The commissioner also reviewed the functioning of CCTV cameras installed by the Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC).
He directed officials to ensure that all cameras installed by the municipal corporation or other agencies within its jurisdiction remain operational. Faulty cameras and associated equipment must be repaired promptly, with effective arrangements for regular monitoring and maintenance.
Focus on Public Safety and Transparency
The commissioner said CCTV cameras are an important public-interest measure that can help improve public safety, support the prevention and investigation of criminal activities, and strengthen transparency in administrative and police operations.
He called on all concerned officials to take the necessary steps to ensure that the surveillance system remains reliable and effective.
Patna Mayor Sita Sahu, Commissioner’s Secretary Vinay Kumar Thakur and other concerned officials attended the meeting.
