Patna: Construction of an interchange station near Patna Junction is progressing, with the facility targeted for completion by 2028. The station will allow railway passengers to access the metro without leaving the junction premises and switch between Corridor 1 and Corridor 2.
The three-storey station is being built on the Doodh Market side of Patna Junction. Entry and exit points are being developed within the railway station complex and near Buddha Smriti Park. The project will also provide direct connectivity to a multi-level parking facility.
Archana Khushi, public relations officer of Patna Metro, said the interchange would connect both metro corridors, making it easier for passengers to transfer between routes.
The facility is expected to ease traffic congestion around Patna Junction, particularly near the busy roundabout, where frequent traffic jams affect commuters.
Khemnichak interchange to open next month
Metro services are currently operational along a 6.2km stretch between the ISBT at Bairiya and Malahi Pakri. The operational section covers four stations: ISBT, Zero Mile, Bhootnath and Malahi Pakri.
The elevated Khemnichak station, which will serve as an interchange between the two corridors, is scheduled to open next month. It will allow passengers to change corridors and travel towards Mithapur.
Construction along the elevated route is progressing, with the next phase expected to extend metro connectivity further into the city.
Metro services to reach Mithapur by June 2027
Metro operations on the 3.1km elevated stretch between Khemnichak and Mithapur are scheduled to begin in June 2027.
The phased expansion is expected to improve connectivity across Patna, while the proposed interchange at Patna Junction will provide a direct link between railway and metro services.
