Patna : The Patna Municipal Corporation (PMC) has intensified preparations at Ganga ghats ahead of Chhath Puja, with Municipal Commissioner Yashpal Meena inspecting all 18 ghats in the Bankipur circle on Thursday and directing officials to speed up cleaning and repairs.
The inspection, conducted for the second consecutive day, focused on the condition of the ghats and the progress of arrangements for devotees. Meena instructed officials and engineers to ensure that cleaning, restoration and other essential work is completed on time so that Chhath devotees have access to clean, safe and convenient riverfront locations.
All 18 Ghats In Bankipur Circle Inspected
Meena visited all 18 ghats in the Bankipur circle, including TN Banerjee Ghat, Banshi Ghat, Darbhanga House Ghat, Law College Ghat, Roshan Ghat and Chaudhary Tola Ghat.
He directed the officials concerned to coordinate their work and accelerate cleaning, repairs and other preparations. The civic body is focusing on ensuring that the ghats are ready to accommodate devotees during the festival.
Officials and engineering teams have been asked to monitor the progress of the work regularly and complete essential arrangements within the stipulated time.

Flood Debris And Silt Pose Challenges
The municipal corporation said flooding during this year’s monsoon has left more silt at the ghats than in previous years. Rainfall has also affected cleaning operations, slowing work at several locations.
Some steps and portions of porticos remain submerged, while accumulated silt has made cleaning and movement difficult at various points.
During the inspection, the municipal commissioner instructed officials to accelerate deep cleaning and prioritise repairs to deteriorated steps, porticos and other damaged structures.
The directions are intended to address flood-related damage and improve access and safety before the arrival of Chhath devotees.
Officials Asked To Assess Access Routes As Ganga Water Level Falls
With Chhath Puja scheduled for mid-November, the municipal corporation is also preparing for changes in access to the ghats as the Ganga’s water level recedes.
Meena directed officials to assess the condition of approach roads and pathways in advance, anticipating that the distance devotees must cover to reach the water could increase as the river level falls.
The civic body has been asked to identify potential difficulties early and make the necessary arrangements to ensure that devotees can reach the ghats safely.
Senior Officials Join Inspection
The inspection was attended by the additional municipal commissioner, chief municipal engineer, executive officer of the Bankipur circle, executive engineer of the Bankipur division, electrical engineer and other officials and staff members.
The PMC is continuing its review of preparations to ensure that cleaning, repair and safety measures are completed before the festival.
