Patna: A 23-year-old man from Kamla Nehru Nagar, near Budh Marg in Patna, died during treatment at Patna Medical College and Hospital (PMCH), prompting fresh concerns over sanitation and mosquito-control measures in the locality. His family suspects dengue, but the cause of death has not yet been officially confirmed.

The deceased, Manjeet Kumar, had reportedly been suffering from fever for nearly a month. According to his family, his condition deteriorated on Friday, following which he was admitted to PMCH. He died later that night during treatment.

Family members said his platelet count had continued to fall, leaving him in a critical condition. However, the exact cause of death will need to be established through medical records and the relevant investigation.

Family Raises Questions Over Sanitation In Kamla Nehru Nagar

Manjeet’s father, Manoj Kapadia, questioned the cleanliness of the neighbourhood and held the municipal authorities and local representatives responsible for the conditions residents say have contributed to a rise in mosquitoes.

According to Kapadia, a large drain behind their house remains dirty, while garbage accumulates in the surrounding area. He alleged that irregular cleaning has allowed foul smells and mosquito breeding to become persistent problems.

Residents also claimed that they had repeatedly raised sanitation concerns with the municipal corporation and the ward councillor but had not seen adequate action.

They alleged that sanitation workers do not visit the locality regularly and that fogging and anti-larval spraying are not carried out consistently.

The allegations have intensified demands for improved waste management, drain cleaning and regular mosquito-control measures in the neighbourhood.

Residents Claim Another Dengue-Related Death In The Locality

Residents claimed that Manjeet’s death was the second dengue-related death in Kamla Nehru Nagar.

They cited the death of 28-year-old Mohammad Khushiyal on September 10, which they also attributed to dengue. However, official confirmation of the causes of either death would depend on the relevant medical findings.

Locals said sanitation problems become more severe during the rainy season, when garbage and stagnant water can create favourable conditions for mosquito breeding.

They described persistent dirt and foul smells in lanes and around toilets, adding that the situation becomes particularly difficult when mosquito numbers increase.

The concerns have renewed calls for regular inspections, improved drainage and more effective implementation of mosquito-control measures in vulnerable neighbourhoods.

Authorities To Examine Cause Of Death

The cause of Manjeet’s death has not yet been officially established. According to the report, the concerned authorities have indicated that the matter will be examined and that the actual cause will be determined after the investigation.

Until the findings are available, the death cannot be conclusively attributed to dengue.

The distinction is important because a suspected infection and a confirmed dengue-related death are not the same. Medical findings and official verification are required to establish the cause.

Patna’s Dengue Cases Cross 537

Dengue infections in Patna have reportedly crossed 537 cases, with five new patients testing positive in the preceding 24 hours, according to District Dengue-Malaria Officer Subhash Prasad.

The Health Department considers the period from September to November particularly sensitive for dengue transmission. Rainfall can leave stagnant water in open containers, drains and other locations, creating breeding sites for mosquitoes.

Public health officials have stressed the importance of preventing water accumulation and controlling mosquito breeding to reduce the risk of infection.

The latest reported figures underline the need for continued surveillance, timely diagnosis and effective mosquito-control measures across the city.

Health Department Says Surveillance And Fever Surveys Are Underway

The Health Department has said teams are monitoring affected areas and conducting fever surveys to identify people who may require testing.

According to the department, suspected patients are being tested, while fogging and anti-larval spraying are being undertaken in localities where dengue cases have been detected. Awareness campaigns are also being conducted to inform residents about prevention.

However, residents of Kamla Nehru Nagar have questioned whether these measures are being implemented regularly in their neighbourhood.

Their complaints highlight the need for coordination between health officials and municipal authorities, particularly in areas where residents report dirty drains, accumulated garbage and inadequate mosquito control.

Residents Urged To Watch For Warning Signs

Health experts advise people experiencing persistent fever or other symptoms suggestive of dengue to seek medical advice rather than rely on self-treatment.

Warning signs that require prompt medical attention include persistent vomiting, bleeding, severe abdominal pain, breathing difficulties or sudden weakness. Anyone experiencing severe symptoms should seek emergency medical care.

Preventive measures include removing stagnant water from containers, keeping water-storage vessels covered, maintaining clean surroundings and following advice from healthcare professionals.

As Patna’s reported dengue caseload rises, the concerns raised in Kamla Nehru Nagar have brought renewed attention to sanitation, surveillance and the need to verify suspected dengue-related deaths through official medical findings.
