Patna: Violence in Mokama, Bihar, shows no sign of abating. A day after the brutal murder of Jan Suraj Party leader Dularchand Yadav, the convoy of RJD candidate Veena Devi, wife of former MP and strongman Suraj Bhan, was attacked and pelted with stones in Pandarak on Friday.
The incident occurred shortly after Veena Devi attended Dularchand’s funeral procession. Her vehicle sustained heavy damage, and a police team was immediately deployed to the area. Authorities have confirmed that tension continues to simmer in Mokama, with additional forces stationed to prevent escalation.
Yadav, who was campaigning in support of Jan Suraj candidate Piyush Priyadarshi, was shot dead earlier this week—an incident that has sent political shockwaves through the region.
Following the attack, Veena Devi said, “Elections are one thing, but family relationships are another. As soon as we learned about Dularchand’s murder, we cancelled all campaign events. We demand an on-camera, magistrate-level investigation into this incident.”
Her husband, Suraj Bhan, echoed her concerns, calling the murder a “murder of democracy.” He urged the Election Commission to conduct an inquiry led by a retired judge, saying, “Only then will the truth come out.”
An FIR has been filed against five people, including JDU candidate Anant Singh, also a well-known strongman, in connection with Dularchand’s murder. Singh has accused Suraj Bhan’s camp of orchestrating the killing.
