Patna: AIIMS Patna marked its 15th Institute Foundation Day on Friday with announcements focused on expanding specialised healthcare, strengthening academic collaborations and preparing the institute for emerging healthcare technologies.
Addressing the Foundation Day ceremony, Prof. Dr R. K. Dhiman, President, AIIMS Patna, said efforts should be made to develop AIIMS Patna as an organ transplantation centre for Bihar. Such a facility, he said, would help strengthen access to specialised transplant services for patients across the state.
AIIMS Patna Plans Mother And Child Block, Cancer Centre
Presenting the institute’s annual report, Prof. (Brig.) Dr Raju Agarwal, Executive Director and CEO, AIIMS Patna, outlined several planned expansions.
The institute is planning to establish a Mother and Child Block, a Comprehensive Cancer Centre and an AI Special Purpose Hub. The proposed facilities are aimed at expanding specialised healthcare services and strengthening the use of advanced technology and artificial intelligence in healthcare.
The plans are part of AIIMS Patna’s broader focus on specialised treatment, medical education, research and technological innovation.
MoU Signed With IIM Bodh Gaya
A key development during the Foundation Day programme was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between AIIMS Patna and IIM Bodh Gaya.
The agreement provides a framework for cooperation in knowledge development and its practical application through academic interaction, knowledge exchange and capacity building.
Under the collaboration, the two institutions will explore joint academic programmes, international conferences and symposiums, and open-enrolment and customised training programmes in healthcare management.
The partnership is intended to bring together expertise in healthcare and management education while creating opportunities for professional development and knowledge sharing.
IIM Bodh Gaya Founder Director Attends As Chief Guest
Smt. Vinita S. Sahay, Founder Director, IIM Bodh Gaya, attended the programme as the chief guest.
Addressing the gathering, she highlighted the importance of excellence, innovation and leadership in institutions of national importance.
The academic programme also featured Prof. Dr Peush Sahni, former Head of GI Surgery at AIIMS New Delhi and Academic Director of C.L.B.S., New Delhi, who was welcomed and felicitated.
Prof. Dr Subhash Gupta, Chairperson of the Centre for Liver & Biliary Sciences, New Delhi, also attended the programme.
Six Faculty Members Receive Awards
The Foundation Day celebration included an award and recognition ceremony, during which six faculty members were honoured for their contributions and achievements.
The programme was attended by Prof. Dr Prashant Kumar Singh, Medical Superintendent; Shri Nilotpal Bal, Deputy Director (Administration); and Prof. Dr Punam Prasad Bhadani, Dean (Academics), along with senior doctors, faculty members, students, nursing officers and administrative staff.
Founding Director And Retired Faculty Member Felicitated
The programme also saw the presence of Prof. Dr Girish Kumar Singh, founding and first Director of AIIMS Patna, who was honoured for his contribution to the establishment and early development of the institute.
Dr Umesh Kumar Bhadani, who recently retired from AIIMS Patna, was also felicitated for his contribution and service to the institution.
The 15th Foundation Day marked both a review of AIIMS Patna’s journey over the past 15 years and a renewed focus on its future role in advanced healthcare, medical education, research, innovation and public service in Bihar.
