Patna: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences Patna held its second convocation ceremony on Wednesday, awarding degrees to hundreds of students across medical and nursing disciplines, while senior officials urged graduates to prioritise ethics, empathy and innovation in their careers.
Addressing the ceremony, the chief guest, Syed Ata Hasnain, called on young doctors to uphold “the highest standards of medical ethics, compassion and professional excellence”. He emphasised the need for empathy in clinical practice, urging graduates to treat patients with dignity beyond “prescriptions and procedures”, and highlighted the growing importance of research and technology in healthcare.
Hasnain also expressed confidence that the institute would continue to develop as a leading centre for medical education.

Among those present were the union minister of state for coal and mines, Satish Chandra Dubey, and members of parliament Ravi Shankar Prasad and Tariq Anwar, along with institute officials and faculty.
The institute’s president, Radha Krishan Dhiman, congratulated the graduating cohort and encouraged them to contribute to the country’s healthcare system with a commitment to service and patient-centred care. The executive director, Raju Agarwal, said the institution remained focused on advancing education, research and clinical excellence.
Degrees were conferred across multiple programmes, including super-specialty, postgraduate and undergraduate courses. According to the institute, 24 students from DM and MCh programmes, 75 from MD, MS and MDS courses, and nine from postdoctoral fellowships received degrees.
In addition, 108 MBBS students from the 2018 and 2019 batches graduated, alongside 15 students from MSc nursing and more than 100 from BSc nursing programmes.

A total of 27 students were awarded gold medals for academic distinction. These included candidates from super-specialty, postgraduate, MBBS and nursing streams, recognising what the institute described as “outstanding academic achievement”.
The ceremony concluded with a formal vote of thanks and the national anthem, marking a milestone for the graduating students as they enter the medical profession.
