Patna: AIIMS Patna on Friday inaugurated an Advanced Seminar Room and Skill Lab in the Department of Surgical Oncology, expanding its academic and clinical infrastructure to strengthen cancer care, surgical training and research.
The new facility has been designed as a simulation-based learning centre where undergraduate students, postgraduate residents, fellows and faculty members can develop surgical skills through structured training and academic activities.
Focus on Competency-Based Medical Education
The Skill Lab was inaugurated by Prof. (Brig.) Raju Agarwal, Executive Director of AIIMS Patna, who described the initiative as a significant milestone in the institute’s efforts to build a world-class ecosystem for cancer care and surgical education.
Addressing the gathering, Agarwal said the facility would contribute to improving surgical outcomes, encouraging innovation and preparing the next generation of oncological surgeons through advanced training methods.
Modern Facility for Academic and Clinical Learning
According to AIIMS Patna, the Seminar Room and Skill Lab will host simulation-based training, live demonstrations, case-based discussions, tumour board meetings, workshops and continuing medical education programmes.
The institute said the facility aims to promote collaborative learning, evidence-based practice, multidisciplinary interaction and clinical research while supporting competency-based medical education.
Initiative Led by Surgical Oncology Department
The project was conceptualised by Jagjit Kumar Pandey, Additional Professor and Head of the Department of Surgical Oncology, with the objective of strengthening surgical education, fostering innovation and enhancing the department’s academic and research ecosystem.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Prashant Kumar Singh, Medical Superintendent; Sanjay Pandey, Dean (Research); Punam Prasad Bhadani, Dean (Academics); Umesh Kumar Bhadani, Head of the Department of Anaesthesiology; and Nilotpal Bal, Deputy Director (Administration).
Faculty members from the Department of Surgical Oncology, including Ephraim R, Tashbihul Azhar and Pravin Kumar, along with senior doctors, residents, nursing officers and staff members, were also present.
Patients Receive Fruits and Sweets
To mark the occasion, AIIMS Patna distributed fruits and sweets among patients in both the Outpatient Department (OPD) and Inpatient Department (IPD), describing the gesture as part of its commitment to compassionate patient care.
Expanding Academic and Clinical Infrastructure
AIIMS Patna said the inauguration forms part of its ongoing efforts to strengthen medical education, research and super-speciality healthcare in eastern India. The institute stated that continued investment in modern infrastructure, innovative teaching methods and multidisciplinary collaboration would help prepare healthcare professionals to address evolving challenges in cancer management while delivering evidence-based patient care.
