Patna: AIIMS Patna has been ranked joint third in India among central government hospitals and medical institutes under the Kayakalp Scheme 2024–25, a national programme designed to improve hygiene, sanitation, and healthcare standards in public sector facilities.

The assessment, conducted in February 2024, reviewed hospitals on hygiene and sanitation practices, infection control systems, biomedical waste management, resource availability, boundary demarcation, and the consistency of round-the-clock services. The scheme aims to drive improvements through transparent scoring and “healthy competition” across public institutions.

Hospital leaders said the recognition reflects AIIMS Patna’s ongoing efforts to align with national benchmarks on patient safety, infection control, and environmental cleanliness. The institution has invested in strengthening nursing services, biomedical waste handling, and support systems that contribute to patient care.
The achievement comes under the leadership of Executive Director Prof (Brig) Dr Raju Agrawal and Medical Superintendent Dr Anup Kumar, who both paid tribute to the faculty, medical staff, and sanitation and engineering teams. They particularly acknowledged the “critical, round-the-clock contribution” of sanitation staff and infection control units, describing them as “the backbone of hospital hygiene”.

In a statement, the hospital said it aims to build on the momentum of the recognition, strengthening hygiene systems and patient-centric services as part of its vision to act as a model institution for Bihar and eastern India.
With the new ranking, AIIMS Patna is positioned as one of the highest-performing hospitals under the Kayakalp scheme, and stakeholders hope the achievement will motivate other health facilities in the region to adopt similar standards.
