Patna: The Department of Emergency Medicine at AIIMS Patna organised a Snake Envenomation Awareness Programme on September 20, using a street play to educate patients and visitors about the need for timely medical treatment after a snakebite.
Street Play Highlights Emergency Response
The programme was held at the OPD foyer of AIIMS Patna, where nursing staff performed a Nukkad Natak depicting common situations following a snakebite.
The performance highlighted the importance of staying calm, limiting unnecessary movement and reaching a healthcare facility without delay.
Warning Against Unproven Remedies
The nursing team cautioned the audience against cutting or sucking the bite wound, applying herbs or chemicals, burning the affected area or using other unproven remedies.
According to the awareness programme, such practices can cause additional injury and may delay appropriate medical treatment.
Medical Evaluation Remains Important
The programme also stressed that the absence of immediate severe symptoms does not necessarily indicate that a snakebite is harmless. Medical evaluation is important because complications can develop after a delay.
The organisers said treatment decisions should be made by trained healthcare professionals following proper medical assessment.
AIIMS Patna Officials Attend Programme
AIIMS Patna Executive Director and CEO Prof. (Brig.) Dr Raju Agarwal and Medical Superintendent Dr Prashant Kumar Singh attended the programme and appreciated the efforts of the Department of Emergency Medicine and nursing staff.
The initiative is part of AIIMS Patna’s ongoing public health awareness efforts aimed at promoting appropriate emergency responses and improving community awareness about snakebite management.
