Patna: As the Bihar Assembly elections draw attention from across the state, several Bhojpuri film stars have stepped into the political arena. Among them is popular actor and singer Khesari Lal Yadav, who is contesting from Chhapra on a Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD) ticket. However, fellow Bhojpuri star Akshara Singh has openly expressed her displeasure with him, claiming that he has shown her “open disrespect”.
In a recent interview, Singh said she was unaware of Yadav’s candidature until she returned to Patna. “I have seen some reels but didn’t have much information. I was busy with Chhath. When I came to Patna, I learned that Khesari Lal Yadav was contesting. Ritesh Pandey is also in the fray. They are all from our industry, and it’s good if they move forward,” she said.
When asked whether she would support Yadav, Singh was blunt: “He openly disrespects me, so how can I support him? We won’t support anyone who doesn’t respect us. But as a human being, I do want everyone from our industry to progress — because their success brings recognition to Bhojpuri cinema as a whole.”
Singh also stressed the importance of mutual respect, particularly towards women. “If we talk about respecting women, we should treat everyone equally. We shouldn’t disrespect one and glorify another. He wasn’t like this before — I don’t know what has changed now,” she added.
Turning to another candidate from the Bhojpuri film world, Singh offered words of encouragement for Pawan Singh’s wife, Jyoti Singh, who is contesting the elections. “It’s a good thing that Jyoti Singh is running. As a woman, I wish her success. She’s doing it on her own, and nobody knows the struggles another person goes through. We have no right to judge anyone. If we can’t support one another, we shouldn’t pull each other down,” Singh said.
