Patna: A video of an alleged fraud against a passenger from Bihar at Anand Vihar Terminal railway station has circulated widely on social media, prompting calls for an investigation into ticketing practices and passenger treatment at the busy Delhi transport hub.
In the clip, recorded by the woman herself, she claims she was short-changed and denied a ticket by a booking clerk. According to her account, she handed over Rs 1,000 for a journey ticket but was returned only Rs 800, with the clerk allegedly retaining the remainder and failing to issue the ticket. When she requested both the ticket and the outstanding money, she says the clerk dismissed her and told her to leave.
Speaking in the video, the woman accuses the employee of exploiting vulnerable passengers. “These people sitting at the counter manipulate money,” she says. “I gave them Rs 1,000 but they gave me only Rs 800 and no ticket. We are poor labourers who earn our living with great difficulty, and government employees are stealing our hard-earned money.”
She also claims she was travelling alone and felt targeted because she lacked male company, a situation she described as leaving her more vulnerable to mistreatment. The woman says she called India’s emergency assistance number, 112, but received no immediate help.
The video has provoked anger on social media, where users tagged the railway ministry and officials demanding action. Many commentators argued that alleged mistreatment of passengers – particularly women and low-income workers – at stations is unacceptable and requires urgent scrutiny.
Railway authorities have not yet issued a public statement addressing the allegations. It remains unclear whether an internal inquiry will be launched into the incident or the specific claims made in the video.
