Biharsharif/Patna: Addressing an election rally in Biharsharif on Saturday, Union Home Minister Amit Shah claimed that the return of the NDA government would ensure such peace and stability in Bihar that future Assembly elections could be conducted in a single phase.
Shah drew a sharp contrast between what he described as the lawlessness of the Lalu-Rabri regime and the development and security brought under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar.
“During the Lalu-Rabri government, elections were held in six phases because of widespread violence, kidnapping, and fear,” Shah said. “Today, under the NDA, voting is held in two phases. If the NDA forms the government again, the next election will be held in one phase — that is the level of peace Bihar now enjoys.”
Highlighting the transformation of Nalanda, Shah invoked its historic legacy. “Bakhtiyar Khilji once destroyed Nalanda University, burning thousands of books. But under Narendra Modi and Nitish Kumar, Nalanda University has been revived. Now, even a hundred Bakhtiyar Khiljis cannot destroy its heritage,” he said to loud applause.
The Home Minister asserted that Bihar is now free from Naxalism, crediting the “double-engine government” for curbing crime and fostering development. “Before 2000, under the Lalu-Rabri rule, Bihar was synonymous with kidnappings, looting, and corruption. Under Modi and Nitish, the state has become safe and progressive,” he said.
He urged young voters to remember “what Bihar once was” and to protect the gains made under the NDA. “Those who lived through the jungle raj know the difference,” he said, framing the election as a choice between “peace and prosperity” and a return to “instability and fear.”
The rally, attended by supporters from across the district, is part of the BJP’s ongoing campaign push in central Bihar, where the party and its allies are seeking to consolidate support ahead of the two-phase Assembly elections scheduled for November 6 and November 11.
