Darbhanga: The implementation of the winter schedule at Darbhanga Airport from today is creating more problems than solutions for passengers. Although the schedule allocates slots for 32 flights across various airlines, only 14 to 16 flights are currently being booked, leaving travelers frustrated.
SpiceJet passengers are among the worst affected, as the airline has suspended its direct Darbhanga-Bengaluru flights just seven days before the Chhath festival. This erratic service pattern has been ongoing for several years. Last year, flights on the same route resumed almost three months later than scheduled, and frequent delays led to protests at Darbhanga Airport. Passengers have similarly expressed disappointment with newer airlines.
Air India Express has been allocated slots for the Darbhanga-Bengaluru and Darbhanga-Delhi routes, but bookings remain unopened. According to the winter schedule, Air India Express was set to operate Darbhanga-Bengaluru flights from November 26, yet no reservations are currently available. Aakash Air had announced plans to fly the Bengaluru route but will only commence operations on November 26.
High fares are adding to passenger woes. Ticket prices to Mumbai have surged past ₹20,000 due to limited flights and strong demand. IndiGo Airlines, despite having daily slots to Mumbai and Kolkata, currently operates flights only four days a week. Aakash Air has two slots on the Mumbai-Darbhanga route but is running only one flight.
Passengers are now facing significant inconvenience just days before Chhath, as limited flight options, high fares, and inconsistent schedules continue to disrupt travel plans.
