Purnia: Union Home Minister Amit Shah delivered a combative election speech in Purnia on Friday, attacking opposition leaders while outlining a series of ambitious development projects for Bihar. Speaking to a large crowd in Seemanchal, Shah framed the upcoming state assembly election as a choice between the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) and a “scattered Maha Thugbandhan,” describing his own alliance as united “like the Pandavas.”
Shah’s speech combined policy promises with sharp criticism of the opposition. He pledged that 25 sugar mills would be set up in Bihar over the next five years, including one in Banmakhi, Purnia, and criticised leaders of the RJD and Congress for failing to deliver development during their tenure, branding it “jungle raj.”

“The election is divided into two camps,” Shah said. “On one side is the scattered Maha Thugbandhan. On the other, the NDA stands together strongly like the Pandavas. We are going to form a government under Nitish Kumar’s leadership by winning more than 160 seats.”
Shah also addressed religious infrastructure, announcing plans to construct a grand Sita (Janaki) temple in Sitamarhi at an estimated cost of Rs 850 crore. He added that a direct train would run from Sitamarhi to Ayodhya to facilitate pilgrimages, underlining the BJP’s focus on cultural and religious projects.
In remarks on security, Shah highlighted cross‑border tensions, claiming the Modi government had responded more decisively to terrorist threats. “If Pakistan fires bullets, we will respond with shells,” he said, noting that ammunition would be manufactured in Bihar’s proposed defence corridor.
Shah renewed allegations of corruption and dynastic politics against Lalu Prasad, his family, and Congress leaders. He accused them of prioritising personal and family interests over the welfare of the state and urged voters to prevent a return to the lawlessness he associated with previous administrations.
After Purnia, Shah is scheduled to address public meetings in Katihar and Supaul, supporting NDA candidates. Security has been tightened in all three districts, with police, CCTV, barricades, and traffic plans put in place to manage crowds.
