Patna: Bihar’s teenage cricket sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi continues to draw admiration from across the sporting and public spheres after a record-breaking 2026 Indian Premier League campaign, with actor Amitabh Bachchan joining a growing list of prominent figures praising the 15-year-old batter.
Taking to X, Bachchan celebrated Suryavanshi’s achievements with a light-hearted remark, writing: “The amazing ‘Surya’ at the age of 15. At that age, we couldn’t even play marbles or gilli-danda properly.”
The praise comes after Suryavanshi became the fastest player in IPL history to score 1,000 runs in terms of balls faced. He reached the milestone in just 440 deliveries, surpassing the previous record held by Andre Russell, who had taken 545 balls.

Season of Records
Suryavanshi’s remarkable season has seen him rewrite several entries in the IPL record books.
The Bihar batter broke a 14-year-old record held by Chris Gayle by smashing 65 sixes in a single IPL season, eclipsing Gayle’s tally of 59 sixes set in 2012. By the end of the season, Suryavanshi had extended that figure to 72 sixes, the highest ever recorded in a single IPL campaign.
He also finished as the season’s leading run-scorer, cementing his status as one of the most dominant batters in the competition.
Chris Gayle Applauds Teenager
Former West Indies opener Chris Gayle welcomed the achievement and said he had expected Suryavanshi to be the player who would eventually break his record.
According to reports, Gayle said he was delighted to see the teenager surpass his mark and described the feat as extraordinary for a player of such a young age.
The former IPL star noted that no other cricketer had achieved such milestones at the age of 15.
New Powerplay Benchmark
Suryavanshi’s exploits extended beyond overall scoring records.
During a match against Gujarat, he scored 31 runs in the Powerplay and became the first player in IPL history to score more than 500 runs in the Powerplay phase in a single season.
He accumulated 521 Powerplay runs at a strike rate of 233.63, breaking the previous record of 467 runs set by David Warner during the 2016 season.
Fastest Indian to 1,000 IPL Runs
The teenager reached the 1,000-run milestone at New Chandigarh in his 23rd IPL innings, becoming the fastest Indian player to achieve the landmark.
He surpassed Sai Sudharsan, who had taken 25 innings to reach the same mark.
In the overall IPL rankings, Suryavanshi now ranks among the fastest players to 1,000 runs, behind only Shaun Marsh and alongside some of the league’s most prolific batters.
Jharkhand Government Plans Ambassador Role
Suryavanshi’s performances have also attracted attention beyond cricket.
Jharkhand Health Minister Dr Irfan Ansari announced that the young batter would be appointed Brand Ambassador for the state’s Health Department.

The minister added that he hoped to honour the cricketer in Jharkhand in the near future.
At just 15, Suryavanshi’s extraordinary season has transformed him from a promising young talent into one of the most talked-about figures in Indian cricket, with his record-breaking performances drawing admiration from sporting legends, politicians and fans alike.
