Patna: A fresh political controversy has erupted in Bihar after former chief minister and Leader of the Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Council Rabri Devi declared that she would not vacate her official residence at 10 Circular Road in Patna despite receiving a fresh government notice.
Speaking to reporters after returning to Patna from Delhi, Rabri Devi challenged the government to take action if it wanted the bungalow vacated.
“We will not vacate the residence. Samrat Chaudhary has only recently become Chief Minister; if he wishes, he can call in the police force to have the residence vacated,” she said.
Her remarks come days after the Building Construction Department directed her to vacate the bungalow, which has now been allotted to Dairy, Fisheries and Animal Resources Minister Nand Kishore Ram.
Government Issues Fresh Notice
According to the Building Construction Department, Rabri Devi’s allotment of the bungalow at 10 Circular Road has been cancelled and she has been asked to shift to an alternative residence allotted to her in her capacity as Leader of the Opposition.
The department has stated that a government residence at 39 Harding Road was allotted to Rabri Devi following the 2025 Bihar Assembly elections under an official order issued on November 25, 2025.
A letter issued by the Joint Secretary-cum-Estate Officer of the department directed her to move to the new residence and immediately vacate the Circular Road bungalow. The department said the decision had received approval from the competent authority.

Residence Linked To Lalu Family For Two Decades
The bungalow at 10 Circular Road has been closely associated with the family of RJD chief Lalu Prasad. Rabri Devi, Lalu Prasad and other members of the family have lived there since 2005, making it one of the most recognisable political addresses in Bihar.
Officials say the department has repeatedly requested that Rabri Devi move to the newly allotted residence. According to the government, several verbal and written communications have been issued over the past six months, but the bungalow remains occupied.
Minister Defends Move
Building Construction Minister Leshi Singh defended the government’s decision, saying the bungalow had been officially allotted to Nand Kishore Ram and that the notice to Rabri Devi had been issued in accordance with established rules.
She said the government was seeking to ensure that official accommodation allotments were implemented as per procedure and that the minister concerned was provided with his designated residence.
