Sitamarhi: Union home minister Amit Shah on Friday will inaugurate the Amrit Bharat Express service between Sitamarhi and Delhi, with regular operations to begin on August 9. The new route has generated excitement among passengers, particularly those from north Bihar and eastern and western Uttar Pradesh.
The train will depart Old Delhi every Saturday at 2pm, arriving in Sitamarhi at 10.45am the next day. The return service will leave Sitamarhi each Sunday at 10.15pm and reach Old Delhi at 10.40pm the following day.
On its inaugural run, the Amrit Bharat Inauguration Special Train will depart Sitamarhi at 2.30pm, stopping at Bairgania (3.15pm), Raxaul (4.10pm), Narkatiaganj (5.15pm), Bagaha (6.20pm), Sisiwa Bazaar (7.55pm), Kaptanganj (8.30pm), Gorakhpur (9.30pm), Basti (10.45pm), Gonda (12.35am), Lucknow (3.40am), Kanpur Central (6am), Tundla (9.10am) and Ghaziabad (12.15pm), before arriving in Delhi at 2pm the next day.
The service will cover the 1,100km journey in 20 hours 45 minutes and comprise 20 coaches, including 11 general and eight sleeper compartments. Designed to offer affordable travel, it is expected to particularly benefit migrant and working-class passengers.
With this launch, Bihar will have seven Amrit Bharat trains in operation, alongside 13 Vande Bharat services. This is the second Amrit Bharat train linking Sitamarhi to the capital, complementing the Darbhanga–Anand Vihar service, which also passes through Sitamarhi, Gorakhpur, Lucknow and Kanpur.
