Bodh Gaya: An international delegation of 22 social media influencers from across Asia visited the Mahabodhi Temple in Bodh Gaya on Monday evening, as part of the Indian government’s ongoing efforts to strengthen cultural ties through public diplomacy.
The group, representing countries including Bhutan, Cambodia, Japan, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Singapore, Vietnam and Thailand, was received at the temple complex by the chief monk, Bhikkhu Chalinda, caretaker monk Bhikkhu Dinanand, and officials of the Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee.

The visit forms part of a broader initiative aimed at promoting India’s Buddhist heritage to global audiences via digital platforms. Authorities hope such engagements will amplify the reach of cultural diplomacy efforts, particularly among younger, online audiences.
During their visit, the delegation explored the temple complex, offered prayers in the main sanctum and beneath the sacred Bodhi Tree, and engaged with the spiritual history of the site, where Gautama Buddha is believed to have attained enlightenment.

Officials briefed the visitors on the historical and religious significance of the temple, a UNESCO World Heritage Site that draws pilgrims and tourists from around the world.
Members of the delegation expressed admiration for the site’s spiritual atmosphere and architectural character. Many documented their experiences for their online audiences, sharing images and videos in real time.

The initiative is expected to contribute to the promotion of Buddhist tourism and reinforce India’s efforts to position its cultural heritage within a global digital landscape.
