Gaya/Patna: The Central University of South Bihar (CUSB) marked Gurudev Rabindranath Tagore’s birth anniversary with a literary function celebrating the legacy of Indian literature and honouring noted author Renu Hussain, whose works were reviewed and discussed by students during the event.
Organised by the university’s Spic-Macay Heritage Club and Renaissance Student Study Circle, the event reflected Vice Chancellor Prof Kameshwar Nath Singh’s vision of fostering holistic academic development on campus. Author of celebrated works such as Gunthi, Ghar Ki Auratein Aur Chand, and Chita Ki Aag, Renu Hussain graced the occasion as chief guest and recited her own ghazals, while reflecting on her writing journey and the enduring influence of Tagore’s oeuvre.
“Rabindranath Tagore’s creations are not bound by time or geography. His poetry, plays, and stories contain a deep-rooted philosophy which continues to resonate across the world,” Hussain said. She fondly remembered Kabuliwala, one of Tagore’s iconic stories adapted into a film, and praised the heritage of Rabindra Sangeet.
In his presidential address, Vice Chancellor Singh underscored the importance of literary insight, stating, “To understand literature, one needs reach, grasp and penetration.” Commending the students for their insightful reviews, he said their interpretations reflected depth and sensitivity.
Students from the Department of Journalism and Mass Communication, including Rishabh Jha, Rahul Mishra, Farheen Bano, Purushottam Upadhyay, and Priyanka Kumari, presented critical reviews of Hussain’s works. Their analyses highlighted themes of love, loss, and emotional depth in the author’s poetry. “Each poem is a mirror of human emotion,” said Jha.
The programme began with a welcome address by Dr Shanti Gopal Pyne and a poetry recitation by Dr Anindya Deb, who reflected on Tagore’s achievements and philosophical vision. Dr Amrita Shrivastava hosted the event, while Dr Sujit Kumar delivered the vote of thanks.
Also present were senior faculty members, administrative officers, and students, including Prof Rizwanul Haque, Dean of the School of Earth, Biological and Environmental Sciences, and Public Relations Officer Mohammad Mudassir Alam.
