Patna: Patna district has recorded the highest number of treatments under the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme in Bihar, reflecting rising awareness and increasing use of government-backed healthcare services across the state.
According to official data, more than 2.347 million people in Bihar have received treatment through Ayushman cards so far. Of these, around 2.008 million patients were treated in hospitals within the state, while over 350,000 beneficiaries sought treatment outside Bihar.
Patna, Muzaffarpur and Darbhanga together account for nearly 38 per cent of all treatments provided under the scheme in the state.
Patna Leads Beneficiary Count
Data from the District Health Security Committee shows that more than 469,000 patients in Patna have availed treatment under the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
Muzaffarpur ranks second with nearly 220,000 beneficiaries, while Darbhanga has recorded around 145,000 beneficiaries.
Officials attribute the rise in numbers to increasing public awareness about the scheme and improved access to empanelled hospitals.
Civil Surgeon Dr Yogendra Mandal said awareness campaigns and outreach efforts have encouraged more eligible families to use the scheme for medical treatment.
More Than 1,250 Hospitals Empanelled
The Ayushman Bharat network in Bihar currently includes around 1,252 empanelled hospitals, comprising 601 government hospitals and 651 private healthcare facilities.
Patients can access treatment throughout the week at these hospitals under the scheme.
To facilitate smoother access to healthcare services, Ayushman Mitras have been deployed at all empanelled hospitals. They assist beneficiaries with documentation, registration and treatment-related procedures, helping ensure that eligible patients receive timely care.
Growing Reliance on Cashless Healthcare
Health officials say the steady increase in beneficiary numbers indicates growing trust in the Ayushman Bharat programme among residents of Bihar.
The scheme provides cashless treatment for eligible families and has become an important healthcare safety net for millions across the state, particularly for those from economically weaker sections.
