Patna: Construction of a rail overbridge (ROB) at Bageshwari Gumti is expected to begin this month, in a move aimed at tackling persistent traffic jams along the busy Patna-Gayaji route.
Dr Prem Kumar, Gaya MLA, has instructed officials to ensure that the project is completed within the stipulated deadline and adheres to quality standards. During a review meeting, he emphasised that there should be no administrative delays once work begins.
Officials said that a diversion plan for heavy vehicles will need to be implemented before construction starts. The MLA directed the District Magistrate to design an alternative route that minimises inconvenience to truck drivers while ensuring that daily commuters are not unduly affected.
The project gathered pace during chief minister Nitish Kumar’s Pragati Yatra, when the MLA raised the issue of chronic congestion at Bageshwari Gumti. The chief minister subsequently approved the proposal and laid the foundation stone, clearing the way for departmental action.
Land acquisition for the project has also been fast-tracked. Authorities have identified 228 plots required for the overbridge, and a gazette notification has been issued. Landowners have been asked to submit claims along with necessary documentation within 60 days of the notification in order to receive compensation.
The identified land parcels include property belonging to the district council, municipal corporation, the Bihar government and private individuals.
Officials said the overbridge is expected to significantly ease congestion at Bageshwari Gumti and improve traffic flow on the Patna-Gayaji corridor once completed.
