Patna: The Bihar State Secretary of the All India Bank Officers’ Confederation (AIBOC), Amresh Vikramaditya, has written to the Principal Secretary of the state General Administration Department, urging the state government to declare a public holiday on February 26 for Mahashivratri under the Negotiable Instruments (NI) Act.
In his letter, Vikramaditya highlighted that while Mahashivratri is recognised as a public holiday under the NI Act in several states, including Jharkhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Maharashtra, Bihar continues to observe it as a working day. He called for parity in holiday declarations, requesting the state to follow the precedent set by other regions.
Mahashivratri, a major Hindu festival dedicated to Lord Shiva, is widely observed across the country, with many states granting official holidays to facilitate public participation in religious observances.
