Patna: Bihar government is set to begin one of the largest data collection exercises in its history as preparations for the 2027 Census of India move forward. The state government has announced that census teams will visit every household across Bihar in May. This large-scale survey will help the government understand how people are living, what facilities they have, and what kind of support they need. Officials say the information collected will play a key role in planning future development and welfare programmes.
The census process will be carried out in two phases. In the first phase, people will be given the option to fill in their details online from April 17 to May 1. This self-filling system is meant to make the process faster and more convenient. In the second phase, from May 2 to May 31, trained enumerators will go door to door to collect and verify information from every home, ensuring that no family is left out.
During the survey, each household will be asked 33 questions. These will begin with details about the house, including the type of building, condition of walls and roof, flooring, and whether the house is used for living or work. The next set of questions will focus on the family, such as the number of members, the name of the head of the household, gender, and social category. They will also record whether the house is owned or rented and how many rooms it has.
The last part of the questionnaire will focus on basic facilities and household items. Families will be asked about drinking water sources, toilets, electricity, cooking fuel, and waste disposal. Information will also be collected about items such as mobile phones, televisions, internet access, bicycles, motorcycles, and cars. The government has requested people to give correct and honest information, as census data is used to design schemes for housing, health, education, and employment.
