Patna: A 12-day integrated training programme titled Infra Impact–III was inaugurated on February 13, 2026 at Indian Institute of Technology Patna. The initiative, which runs until February 24, brings together 60 engineers from the Rural Works Department of the Government of Bihar for specialised training in bridge and pavement engineering.
Organised by the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, the programme focuses on bridge and pavement design, inspection, monitoring, performance evaluation and overall capacity building. The inaugural ceremony was led by Prof Ramakar Jha, Dr Anup Keshri, Associate Dean (Research and Development), and workshop coordinators Dr Vaibhav Singhal, Dr Arvind Kumar Jha, Dr Arjit Jain and Dr Nitin Kumar, who formally opened the event with a lamp-lighting ceremony. The department undertook the initiative under the leadership of IIT Patna director Prof T N Singh.
Speaking at the event, Dr Vaibhav Singhal outlined the structure and objectives of the programme, saying it is designed to enhance technical knowledge and support improved construction practices across the state. Dr Anup Keshri highlighted the role of civil engineers and the construction sector in driving India’s economic growth, adding that infrastructure development will be key to achieving the country’s five-trillion-dollar economic target. Prof Ramakar Jha stressed the importance of continuous learning, noting that such capacity-building initiatives are essential to keep pace with rapidly evolving technologies and industry standards.
The training programme includes modules on hydrology and hydraulic studies, bridge hydraulics, waterway design and scour protection, geotechnical investigation and foundation design, and quality control in bridge construction. Sessions will also cover bridge design, condition assessment, retrofitting techniques and pavement engineering. The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks proposed by Dr Arpit Jain.
