Patna: The family of a young NEET student from Jehanabad district in Bihar is once again in shock after receiving another threatening note at their home. The note warned that their son would also be killed, just days after their daughter’s mysterious death. The message was found on Tuesday in the Shakurabad police station area. This was the second such threat in only 72 hours. Earlier, on Saturday, another note was found on the kitchen window of their house, saying that the family would be kidnapped and killed if they tried to seek justice. Since then, the family has been extremely frightened and afraid to step out of their home.
The student had been living in Patna to prepare for the NEET examination and was staying in a girls’ hostel. On 6 January, she was found unconscious in her room. She was rushed to a private hospital, where she died on January 11. At first, the police said it was a case of suicide. However, the family strongly denied this and claimed that their daughter had been raped and murdered. Later, forensic tests reportedly found male semen on her clothes, which made the case more serious. DNA samples of several people were taken to find the truth.
After the first threat, the family approached the police and the state government, asking for protection. Following this, Patna senior superintendent of police Kartikeya K. Sharma ordered Jehanabad police to increase security at the family’s house. Police personnel have now been posted outside the home. Even so, the person who placed the threatening notes has not yet been identified. The local police officer said it appears to be the work of an antisocial element, but a full investigation is still underway.
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), which is now handling the case, visited the village again on Tuesday. The team spoke with the family and searched for important evidence. Earlier, on February 15, the CBI had also visited the home and questioned the parents and the brother in separate rooms. They were also trying to recover the brother’s mobile phone, which is believed to contain important information. After the Bihar government handed the case to the CBI, the agency is now investigating the matter from all sides. For the family, the pain of losing their daughter has not ended, and the fear for their own lives has now become their new reality.
