Muzaffarpur: The Muzaffarpur transport department has tightened enforcement around the BH series number plates, a special registration designed for employees frequently transferred across states. Under new rules, vehicle owners must now pay 14 years’ road tax upfront, replacing the earlier provision that allowed payment for just two years.
The stricter rule follows the department’s observation that the earlier system was causing significant revenue losses to the government. As per the revised order, those who already own BH series plates after paying only two years’ tax must now clear the remaining 12 years’ dues immediately.
District Transport Officer Kumar Satyendra Yadav confirmed that notices have been issued to defaulters, with a warning of a Rs. 100 per day penalty if the dues are not cleared within the stipulated period. Of the 1,200 BH plate holders in Muzaffarpur, most have already complied with the new directive, officials said.
The BH (Bharat) series registration is available only to government employees and staff of companies operating in at least four states, whose jobs involve frequent transfers. Applicants must present an employer’s certificate confirming their eligibility. Authorities have instructed strict verification before issuing new BH series numbers to ensure compliance with all updated guidelines.
