Munger: A tragic incident in Bihar’s Munger district has left the community reeling after a class three student died by suicide in his school hostel on Wednesday afternoon. The boy, identified as Sahil, son of Deepak Bind from Paukari village, was found hanging from a window in his hostel room.
According to police, the child’s mother had dropped him off at the school in Krishna Bazaar, Haveli Kharagpur, just half an hour before the incident. Family members said Sahil had repeatedly run away from the hostel in the past, insisting he did not want to stay there. Each time, his mother brought him back, urging him to study and “bring pride to the family.”
Police said that on Monday morning, after Sahil’s mother scolded him for fleeing again, she left him at the school and returned home. Moments later, the child went inside the hostel and took the extreme step.
Teachers and hostel staff were stunned when they found the boy. “We couldn’t believe what we saw,” one teacher said. Sahil was rushed to a hospital in Haveli Kharagpur, where doctors declared him dead.
The family is inconsolable. Sahil’s father, who works as a labourer in another state, broke down upon hearing the news. “He was our only son,” a relative said through tears.
Police have sent the body for post-mortem and initiated an investigation. Officials said the preliminary inquiry suggests emotional distress, but a detailed probe is underway to determine whether negligence was involved.
The incident has sparked grief and reflection in the local community, highlighting the pressures faced by young children in academic environments and the urgent need for emotional support systems in schools.
