Patna: The month of Bhadrapada, the second of the four holy months of Chaturmas, will begin on August 10 and conclude on September 7 with Bhadrapada Snan-Daan Purnima. This year, the month will last 29 days due to the absence of the Shashthi Tithi in Krishna Paksha.
The period is regarded in Hindu scriptures as an auspicious time for spiritual purification and devotion. A series of festivals will be observed, including Shri Krishna Janmashtami, Ganesh Chaturthi, Haritalika Teej, Karma-Dharma Ekadashi, Anant Chaturdashi and Kushi Amavasya.
Krishna Janmashtami will be marked on August 16, with worship and celebrations held in homes and temples. From 27 August, Ganesh Chaturthi will commence, lasting 10 days until Anant Chaturdashi, with devotees installing idols of Lord Ganesha in homes and public pandals.
Kushi Amavasya will be observed on August 23, a day associated with Dev Karya, Pitra Karya and ritual offerings. On August 26, Haritalika Teej will see married women fasting and offering prayers to Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati, while the Mithilanchal region will celebrate the folk festival Chaurchan, involving moon worship in the evening.
Karma-Dharma Ekadashi falls on September 3, followed by Anant Chaturdashi on September 6, when devotees worship Lord Vishnu in his Anant form and tie sacred threads. The month will end on September 7 with Bhadrapada Purnima, which will also mark the start of Pitru Paksha, a fortnight dedicated to ancestor offerings, concluding on September 21.
