Bhagalpur: A man accused of killing a government official in Bhagalpur has died following a police encounter, triggering a political controversy after a photograph of him with senior political leaders circulated on social media.
Police said Ramdhani Yadav, who was wanted in connection with the daylight killing of Krishna Bhushan Kumar, a government official, was killed during an encounter in Bhagalpur. Authorities have not yet released detailed circumstances of the operation, but confirmed that Yadav was a key accused in the case.

Tejashwi Yadav alleged in his post that the accused had political links and questioned the ruling National Democratic Alliance over its past criticism of law and order in the state. His remarks have not been independently verified, and no response from the leaders featured in the images has been issued in relation to the photographs at the time of reporting.
The circulation of the images has intensified debate in Bihar’s political circles, with opposition leaders raising questions about alleged associations, while the ruling side has not officially commented on the claims.
According to local reports, Ramdhani Yadav was also known to be active in the Sultanganj Ghat area and had multiple cases registered against him. Police officials have not confirmed these details in an official briefing.
Further scrutiny has also turned towards his family background. His wife, Neelam Devi, is reported to have previously served as the chairperson of a municipal council and currently holds the position of deputy chairperson. She had also contested a state assembly election on a Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) ticket, according to local sources, but was unsuccessful.
Following the encounter, security has been tightened around Neelam Devi’s residence in Sultanganj. Senior police officials, including a superintendent-rank officer from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), visited the area, and additional forces have been deployed as a precautionary measure.
Meanwhile, Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary expressed condolences over the killing of Krishna Bhushan Kumar, calling it a “tragic loss in the line of duty.” The state government announced an ex gratia payment of Rs 25 lakh to the deceased officer’s family and said he would be accorded a state funeral.
