Ara/Patna: The Bhojpur police have removed the names of Bharat Bhushan Tiwari’s father and brother from the FIR registered after the June 17 encounter in Bilauti village, marking a significant development in one of Bihar’s most closely watched police shooting cases.
The decision follows a supervisory review of the investigation and comes as a judicial commission continues to examine the circumstances surrounding the encounter that claimed Bharat Tiwari’s life.
Father And Brother Removed From FIR
When the case was initially registered at Shahpur police station, Bharat Tiwari, his father Kashinath Tiwari and his brother Chandan Tiwari were named as accused.
The FIR alleged offences including attacking a police team, violations of the Arms Act and harbouring Bharat Tiwari.
Following a review of the evidence, police removed the names of Kashinath Tiwari and Chandan Tiwari from the case.
Bhojpur Superintendent of Police Raj confirmed the development, stating that the decision was taken after facts that emerged during the investigation were examined.
He added that the investigation into the encounter itself remains ongoing.

Encounter Sparked Statewide Attention
The incident occurred on the morning of June 17 in Bilauti village under Shahpur police station in Bhojpur district.
Police have maintained that Bharat Tiwari was injured during an exchange of fire with officers and later died while undergoing treatment.
His family, however, disputes that account, alleging that he was shot after surrendering to the police.
Based on a complaint filed by the family, a separate murder case has been registered against police officers and personnel involved in the operation.
The encounter has triggered widespread public attention, political reactions and protests, including a large Mahapanchayat in Bilauti village demanding justice and an impartial investigation.
Judicial Inquiry Underway
Amid growing demands for an independent investigation, the Bihar government has constituted a one-member judicial inquiry commission headed by retired Patna High Court judge Justice Vinod Kumar Sinha.
The commission has begun its inquiry by visiting Bilauti village, inspecting the site of the encounter and meeting Bharat Tiwari’s family.
During the visit, family members questioned the police version of events and urged the commission to conduct an impartial investigation.
Justice Sinha assured the family that all aspects of the case would be thoroughly examined and that statements from all concerned parties would be recorded before the commission submits its report.
