Patna: The Bihar government has announced that approximately 20,000 teachers will be recruited every year under its ongoing education reform programme, with advertisements for the Teacher Recruitment Examination (TRE) set to be issued annually in July. Over the next five years, the state aims to appoint around 1 lakh government teachers.
The announcement was made on Friday by Samrat Choudhary following a high-level review meeting of the Education Department.
Annual Recruitment Plan
According to the government, the recruitment cycle will be standardised, with TRE advertisements released every July. Officials said the move is intended to ensure predictability in hiring and address long-pending vacancies in government schools across Bihar.
The administration has stated that the broader objective is to strengthen the quality of school education and improve teacher availability across rural and urban institutions.
Transfer Policy Reforms
During the same meeting, the government also reviewed the teacher transfer policy. Officials have been directed to make the process more transparent and structured.
As per the new framework, female teachers will be posted within their home district wherever possible, prioritising placements in their home block, home panchayat, or adjacent panchayat areas. Male teachers, meanwhile, will be considered for postings in blocks adjacent to their home block within the same district.
Uniform Distribution Through Jeevika
The government also announced that school uniforms for students will now be supplied through Jeevika.
Officials said the initiative is aimed at ensuring timely distribution of uniforms while also supporting women’s self-help groups associated with the organisation, strengthening livelihood opportunities alongside education delivery.
TRE-4 Demand and Ongoing Protests
The announcement comes amid continued protests by aspirants demanding the release of the TRE-4 notification. Demonstrations have been held in several districts, including Patna, where participants have raised concerns over delays in the examination schedule.
Aspirants claim that the government had earlier indicated timelines for TRE-4, but the official notification has not yet been released by the Bihar Public Service Commission. Recent protests have also witnessed clashes between demonstrators and police during gatherings in the state capital.
Education Minister Mithilesh Tiwari has previously stated that the department is working on resolving pending issues and that an update would be issued soon.
With the new announcement, the government’s plan to issue annual recruitment advertisements in July has led to expectations that the TRE-4 notification may now be scheduled around July 2026.
