Patna: A concession agreement for the operation of 400 air-conditioned electric buses was signed on Wednesday between the Bihar State Road Transport Corporation, the state Transport Department, and GreenCell Mobility Private Limited at Hotel Maurya, Patna. The initiative is part of the PM-eBus Sewa scheme under the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs.
The agreement marks a major expansion of Bihar’s push towards modern and eco-friendly urban mobility. Officials said the project aims to strengthen safe, technology-enabled and passenger-centric public transport across major urban centres.
Phase-wise Deployment Plan
Under the agreement, Bihar will receive 400 AC electric buses in 35-seater and 42-seater categories. In the first phase, 200 buses will be deployed by July 2026.
The state government has also planned 50 “Pink Buses” in the initial rollout to improve safe and accessible transport options for women passengers.
The buses will operate across Patna, Gayaji, Bhagalpur, Muzaffarpur, Darbhanga and Purnia.

Modern Features and Safety Systems
The upcoming fleet will be equipped with CCTV cameras, GPS-based tracking, panic buttons, passenger information systems, fire safety kits, first-aid kits and mobile charging points. Officials said the design focuses on real-time monitoring and passenger security.
Charging infrastructure is also being developed across all six BSRTC divisions. Each depot is planned to support operations for around 50 buses, with fast-charging systems capable of fully charging vehicles within 1 to 1.5 hours.
Government Push for Clean Mobility
Transport Minister Damodar Rawat said the scheme would transform urban transport in Bihar by reducing pollution and strengthening public mobility systems.
Transport Secretary Raj Kumar said the initiative will upgrade traffic management and provide modern travel facilities across cities.
State Transport Commissioner Arif Ahsan said the project reflects the state’s commitment to technology-driven transport solutions.
Atul Kumar Verma said the agreement marks a key step toward building a sustainable and green transport ecosystem. He added that the corporation is also modernising bus terminals and expanding passenger services through PPP-based infrastructure upgrades.
Additional Secretaries Praveen Kumar and Krityanand Ranjan were also present during the signing ceremony.
