Bihar Agricultural University’s Annual Mango Exhibition Showcases Over 230 Crop Varieties in Celebration of Diversity and Innovation

Sabour: The 11th Annual Mango Variety Exhibition concluded on June 11, 2025, at Bihar Agricultural University (BAU), Sabour, with a vibrant display of biodiversity, innovation, and community participation. The two-day event celebrated both traditional and modern crop varieties, along with value-added agricultural products contributed by farmers and the university.
This year’s exhibition featured over 1,60 varieties from BAU and more than 70 from farmers across nearby districts. Entries were evaluated on June 9, and awards were distributed to 31 farmers in the first category, 36 in the second, and 22 in the third.
The event opened on June 10 at the Quap Garden Hall on the university campus. It was presided over by the Vice Chancellor of BAU, with Munger University Vice Chancellor Sanjay Kumar attending as chief guest. The inauguration was marked by visits to stalls showcasing the diverse range of mangoes and other crops, with dignitaries commending the farmers for their innovative contributions.
In the welcome address, B. Jha, Chair of the Horticulture Department, set the tone for the exhibition. A.K. Singh, Director of Research at BAU, highlighted the importance of scientific research, geographical indication (GI) tagging, and patenting.
Sanjay Kumar congratulated BAU on achieving an ‘A’ grade from the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), calling the displayed biodiversity “highly commendable.” The Vice Chancellor of BAU underlined the significance of the CMFY Annual Crop Programme, urging farmers to take active roles in conserving and promoting crop diversity.
On the second day, an Annual Food Competition brought together enthusiastic participants from across the university community—including farmers, students, faculty, and staff. Winners across various categories will be awarded.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Shankar Singh, Assistant Professor at BAU.
