Sabour (Bhagalpur): Bihar Agriculture University (BAU), Sabour, has achieved a significant milestone in agricultural innovation after securing a design registration for its “Dynamic GI Flavor Profiling Traceability Device” from the Indian Patent Office.
The design has been registered in the name of Bihar Agriculture University, Sabour, recognising the originality and functional utility of the device. The innovation is credited jointly to a team of university researchers, reflecting a collaborative effort to link scientific research with intellectual property creation.
Developed under the guidance of Dr A K Singh, nodal officer of the GI Facilitation Centre and director of research at BAU, the device has been positioned as part of a broader effort to integrate geographical indication (GI) protection with modern traceability and quality certification systems.
According to university officials, the design registration acknowledges the novel structure and application-based utility of the device, which is intended to support flavour profiling, standardised quality testing and traceability across GI-based agricultural value chains. The technology is expected to help address long-standing challenges related to authenticity, certification and market credibility of region-specific products.

Welcoming the development, BAU vice-chancellor D. R. Singh said the registration reflected the university’s strategic focus on connecting science with markets. “Such technologies will help protect the unique identity of Bihar’s GI products and enhance their competitiveness at both national and global levels,” he said.
University officials said the device could play a key role in strengthening branding and export readiness of GI products by providing science-based mechanisms for quality differentiation and traceability. They added that the innovation aligns with national priorities on GI protection, intellectual property development and the promotion of region-specific agricultural produce.
The achievement further reinforces BAU Sabour’s standing as a leading centre for agricultural research and intellectual property generation, and is being seen as a step towards a more quality-driven and market-oriented transformation of agriculture in Bihar.
