Patna: The Bihar government will introduce new undergraduate courses in Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Mathematics & Computing in 10 state engineering colleges from the 2026-27 academic session, following approval from the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE).
The move is part of the state government’s broader push to modernise technical education and expand opportunities in emerging technology fields.
According to officials, each college will offer 60 seats for the new programmes under the Computer Science and Engineering stream at the BTech level.
Colleges selected for new AI programmes
The courses will be introduced in the following institutions:
- Bakhtiyarpur Engineering College
- Muzaffarpur Institute of Technology
- Gaya Engineering College
- Chhapra Engineering College
- Supaul Engineering College
- Darbhanga Engineering College
- Munger Engineering College
- Purnea Engineering College
- Bhagalpur Engineering College
- Vaishali Engineering College
Demand for computer science courses rises
The Department of Science, Technology and Technical Education said demand for Computer Science and related disciplines has increased significantly in recent years, with seats in many institutions being filled quickly.
Officials said the new curriculum is expected to help prepare skilled engineers for future industry requirements. Recruitment of faculty members for the specialised subjects will also be undertaken.
Focus on emerging technologies
Under the new programmes, students will study subjects including data science, machine learning, algorithm design, software development and financial technology.
The colleges had applied for approval for the courses in 2025, after which the department initiated preparations for implementation through an official communication.
