Patna: Bihar is set to introduce artificial intelligence (AI) education in government schools, in a move aimed at modernising the education system and preparing students for future technological demands.
The state government has issued directives to district education officers to implement the programme, which will be rolled out for students from classes 6 to 12.
Officials said the initiative will be based on a model developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) and delivered through the Diksha digital learning platform. The platform includes features such as video-based learning and read-aloud tools to support better understanding and accessibility.
According to the education department, the programme, titled “Skilling for AI Readiness”, has been designed in response to the rapidly expanding role of artificial intelligence across industries. The aim is to equip students with foundational knowledge and practical skills required in a technology-driven world.
The curriculum will include topics such as machine learning, neural networks, responsible use of AI and essential digital skills. Officials said the content has been aligned with international standards to enable students to compete at a global level.
To simplify learning, the course has been divided into three modules: “AI to be aware”, “AI to acquire” and “AI to aspire”. Each module will be of 15 hours duration and will cover a range of topics from basic concepts to advanced areas such as generative AI, programming, cybersecurity and career opportunities.
The government said the initiative is expected to strengthen digital capabilities among students and open up new opportunities in the technology sector in the coming years.
